The Auburn Ruth Everuss Aquatic Centre officially opened its doors on Saturday 1 April, but there was no better way to mark the re-opening than a Grand Opening Free Family Fun Day on Saturday 22 April.
Our Grand Opening hosted free swimming, kids activities including balloon twisting and face painting, swim squad demonstrations, water polo, giveaways, group fitness classes and a sausage sizzle on the BBQ.
Former Olympian and Commonweath Games gold medallist Ruth Everuss herself returned to Auburns Aquatic Centre, recalling the time when the Centre first opened it’s doors in 1959, and the chlorine level was so bad on the day that everyone ended up in the casualty room getting something for their eyes.
Needless to say, the chlorine level was perfect and we saw over 800 people walk through the doors and enjoy the sunshine and activities. A community day it was with many of our guests sharing their fond memories of the Centre, as well as our very first member Robyn Nguyen ‘meeting and greeting’ everyone on the day.

Since our Grand Open Day we have had our first official Centre booking with an Australian Afghan Refugee group of 257 people. This is a very exciting time for us as we see the facility as an important service to connect the local community to leisure and to make sure everyone from our diverse community can participate.
Our swimming and water safety program has reached 500 enrollments already! There are still plenty of time slots so make sure you enrol before Summer! The program is continuously growing, and we now offer Ladies Only Swimming Classes every Wednesday from 2:30pm – 3:00pm. Ladies Only Casual Swim Passes are also available for every Sunday from 3pm – 5pm, held in the program pool.
Squads are also back! Early June we will see our squad program commence as well as team squads (Teen Fit) held every Monday and Thursday from 5 – 6pm.
That is all for now, we hope to see you all in the Centre soon!
